The EMLI Mold Level Measurement with Suspended Sensors ensures precise control of steel levels during continuous casting. Designed for reliability and accuracy, it seamlessly integrates into production processes. This cutting-edge solution enhances operational efficiency.

The EMLI Electromagnetic Level Measurement with Suspended Sensors

EMLI System Overview

The EMLI™ (Electro Magnetic Level Indication) system employs advanced technology to measure and detect liquid metal levels accurately. The system’s core components include a MANAGEMENT UNIT, a CONTROL UNIT, and a PREAMPLIFIER UNIT. A single MANAGEMENT UNIT can oversee up to eight CONTROL UNITS in setups with multiple systems.

The MANAGEMENT UNIT is responsible for system monitoring, data logging, and setup, with remote access capabilities through an Internet connection if enabled.

The CONTROL UNIT is the system’s central component, generating the transmitter signal and processing the measurement data.

The PREAMPLIFIER UNIT amplifies the measurement signal before sending it to the CONTROL UNIT.

EMLI – Mold Level Measurement System

EMLI - Mold Level Measurement System

The EMLI mold level measurement system with a suspended sensor comprises a state-of-the-art electronics package and a custom-designed steel mill-proven electromagnetic metal level sensor.

The sensor is mounted on a removable arm positioned so that the sensor head is suspended over the liquid metal pool. The sensor arms can be manually operated or automated.

This arrangement allows for the easy removal and insertion of the sensor, even during casting.

EMLI suspended sensor

The EMLI suspended sensor, designed with a balanced coil, is positioned over the molten metal pool. This specialized coil focuses measurement on a narrow area directly beneath the sensor, reducing interference from surrounding materials and mold walls.

The sensor is composed of three coils: one transmitter and two receivers. When an excitation signal is sent to the transmitter coil, and no metal is detected, the sensor remains in a ‘balanced’ state with minimal output. However, when metal enters the sensor’s field, it disrupts the balance by affecting one receiver coil more than the other. This imbalance generates a signal corresponding to the mold’s metal level, which is processed by the EMLI™ electronic unit.

Exceptional System Advantages

The EMLI mold level measurement system with suspended sensors provides the following outstanding benefits:

  • Accurate and reliable detection of the metal level in the mold, unaffected by slag.
  • Robust and stable suspended sensors that are easy to install and maintain.
  • Sensors can be effortlessly removed or replaced during casting if needed.
  • A simplified calibration process is included with the semi-automatic calibration unit.
  • Comprehensive logging of all critical system parameters by the MANAGEMENT UNIT.
  • Continuous monitoring of system health and status for easier evaluation and troubleshooting.
  • Remote access for monitoring, troubleshooting, and system updates via the Internet.
  • Accessible spare parts and service support.
  • The system can be configured to operate with both mold-mounted and suspended-type sensors.
