Solids Flow & Blocked
WADECO Solids Flow and Blocked Chute Detection
WADECO Microwave Solids Flow Sensor (MWS-DP-3)
The MWS-DP-3 Microwave Solids Flow Sensor utilizes high-penetrability microwaves and the Doppler effect to detect moving solids. The sensor transmits microwaves toward the target material, analyzing the reflected waves to determine whether the object is stationary or in motion. The microwaves can penetrate non-conductive materials like plastics and pass through buildup on the sensor head, making it ideal for detecting powders, granules, and similar materials in a vacuum pipeline.
When microwaves encounter an object, they may be reflected, absorbed, or passed through, depending on the material’s composition. Metals reflect microwaves, water absorbs them, and non-conductive materials allow them to pass through. The Doppler effect creates a frequency shift in microwaves reflected from moving objects, which is then converted into a motion signal to activate the sensor’s output relay.
KEY FEATURES:
- HIGH PENETRATION
- Effectively penetrates process buildup on antennas, firebrick, refractory materials, etc
- The sensor can be installed externally on plastic or ceramic pipes, detecting material flow within the pipe
- NON-INTRUSIVE INSTALLATION:
- Flush-mounted design, ensuring no intrusion or disruption to material flow
- FILTER FOR SCREENING UNWANTED DOPPLER SIGNALS:
- This feature filters out unnecessary Doppler signals, such as those from vibrating pipes or conveyors
- Enhances the signal-to-noise ratio.
- Enables sensor use in challenging environments where non-contact flow detection was previously difficult
- SENSITIVITY MARGIN INDICATOR:
- Displays the sensor’s received power level and sensitivity threshold for easy visual adjustment
- Simplifies sensor maintenance
- Demonstrates the benefits of the filter’s screening capabilities
- SELECTABLE DETECTION MODE:
- It offers a choice between flow detection and non-flow detection mode
- TEST BUTTON INCLUDED:
- LED indicators show the status of the microwave circuit and internal temperature when the test button is pressed
- DOPPLER SIGNAL INCOMING INDICATOR:
- LED indicator lights up when a Doppler signal is received, clearly displaying flow and non-flow conditions

Typical Solids Flow Detection Application
Block Chute Detection Application
The Blocked Chute Detection Application employs the WADECO MWS-DP-3 solids flow sensor along with either the MWS-SR-11 or MWS-SR-2 receiver. The MWS-DP-3 serves a dual purpose: it functions as a solids flow detector and a transmitter to the designated receiver. This configuration generates two output signals: one to detect material flow and the other to determine if the chute is blocked. There are three possible scenarios:
- Normal Condition
In this situation, the solids flow sensor detects material moving past it. Depending on the material’s position, the receiver might signal a blockage or clear chute. - Blocked Chute Condition
Here, the solids flow sensor shows no material flow, while the receiver signals a blockage, indicating that the chute is obstructed. - No Flow Condition
In this case, the solids flow sensor indicates no material flow, and the receiver confirms no blockage, meaning no material is entering the monitored area.
